Henry Tomlinson trained as a bricklayer and was admitted as a member of the Operative Society of Bricklayers Walsall branch, 26th August 1893.
The first record of houses built by him is for 6 houses in Florence Street, Walsall, in 1902. In 1923 he entered into partnership with his son, Frank Tomlinson, and the firm became known as H Tomlinson & Son. Beside his son Frank, he had two daughters and three sons, who were all born and lived in Birchills. Two of his sons, Ernest and Wilfred, worked for the firm, and Wilfred’s two sons Roy and Claude, joined the company in 1943 and 1946 respectively.
Claude’s son, Mark Tomlinson, joined the company in 1984.
Henry Tomlinson, then H Tomlinson & Son, traded from its currant address in Birchills Street from 1938 onwards to the present day.
In 2008, Claude Tomlinson retired, however he expressed a wish that the company remain a family-run business, and Richard Edis, who with over 20 years experience in the construction industry, with firms like Bovis and Wimpey, bought the company, and Edis Developments Ltd became incorporated into H Tomlinson & Son Ltd May 20th 2008. In so doing, the company remains a family run business, now directly employing 45 people.
"Richard Edis and all the Staff of H Tomlinsons.
The Rotary Club of Walsall would like to thank you very much for your very kind donation of stamps for our Tree of Light appeal. We have now raised just over f4000 for Walsall Carer's centre and other Rotary charities. - Thank you for your support."
I would like to take this opportunity to extend a big thank you to all workers involved with the refurbishment of Goscote Centre. Their professionalism was unquestionable when working under such difficult circumstances. Each and every one of them was totally accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. They were perfect ambassadors for your company. I would not hesitate to recommend Tomlinson's to anyone.
Sincere wishes of very Merry Christmas and Happy Prosperous New Year from everyone here.
Yours sincerely - Jacqui Wilmot, Centre Manager"
